Last night was an absolute blast! I had the pleasure of experiencing the Fair Oaks Village Progressive dinner, organized by the Fair Oaks Park District and the Fair Oaks Chamber of Commerce. The dinner consisted of four delicious stops, each at a different restaurant in the village.
First, we started at the Rooster Bistro with Nachos. I’ve been to this restaurant many times, and while the food could use a bit more heat, flavor, and spice, the owners are lovely and it’s always a popular spot. The nachos were piled high with chips, lots of chips, pico de gallo, jalapeno peppers, pieces of pork, refried beans, and drizzled with sour cream. I didn’t see any cheese but found some melted cheese at the bottom of the plate, which was a nice surprise. If you order nachos here, I would recommend asking for a large order of guacamole, extra cheese, sour cream, and salsa to add a bit more flavor and kick to it. I personally would have liked less chips on a smaller plate to balance with the toppings, but that’s just my preference.
Next, we went to Brahma Bar and Grill for the main course, a meat platter of pork, chicken, and ribs. The meat was absolutely delicious, but it needed a side of vegetables to balance it out. That was a lot of meat. Like, seriously. But it was wonderful.
Dessert was at the Fair Oaks Brew Pub, always a pleasant spot to enjoy on the outdoor patio. I had the cheesecake and my Brad had a rootbeer float. Both were delicious and a great way to end the meal.
The last stop was at Stockman’s bar for a cocktail. We had a great time and I would highly recommend checking out the park district’s website or the Fair Oaks Chamber website (www.FairOaksChamber.com) for upcoming events like this. I love Fair Oaks and it’s great to see the community come together for events like the Progressive dinner. Overall, it was a fun and delicious night and I look forward to the next one. I would love to see Shangri-la Fair Oaks participate in the future and I hope we can go outside the Village to include other to include other local restaurants like Smokey Oaks Tavern and Dad’s Kitchen. That would be amazing!
