Fair Oaks Village Is Not Just a Place. It Is a Feeling.
Fair Oaks Village is one of those places that feels different the moment you arrive. It is the sound of chickens wandering through the streets while people smile and pull out their phones for photos. It is neighbors stopping to talk a little longer than they planned. It is walking beneath giant oak trees and feeling like life slows down for a moment, even if only for a few minutes.
Explore Fair Oaks Village
Use the map below to explore local landmarks, restaurants, shops, gathering places, and some of the places that help make Fair Oaks Village feel like home.
There is something about Fair Oaks Village that has always pulled people in. Maybe it is the history. Maybe it is the small businesses with familiar faces behind the counters. Maybe it is the way people wave to each other here, even when they do not know one another yet.
Whatever that feeling is, people seem to recognize it when they find it.
I have lived in and around Fair Oaks for decades, and through I Love Fair Oaks, I have spent years documenting the stories, businesses, events, and moments that give this community its heart. Over time, I realized that what makes people fall in love with Fair Oaks is rarely the house itself.
It is the feeling of belonging.
Fair Oaks Village carries the heart of that feeling.
One of the newer additions to Fair Oaks Village that has quickly captured people’s attention is Bodega Biondi.
With its intimate atmosphere, curated wines, beautiful presentation, and Italian inspired dishes, it has become a favorite spot for date nights, celebrations, and evenings where dinner turns into lingering conversation.
We recently featured Bodega Biondi on I Love Fair Oaks, and it is easy to see why so many people are talking about it.
Fair Oaks Village Through the Years
Fair Oaks Village has evolved over the years, but its heart has remained the same. Browse through photos and moments that help tell the story of this special place.
Spend a Day in Fair Oaks Village
Fair Oaks Village today has become one of those places where you can easily spend an entire afternoon without planning to.
The Village is home to restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, local businesses, gathering spaces, and one of the most loved community spots in the area. The recently updated park and the Performing Arts Center have created even more opportunities for people to gather, connect, and simply enjoy spending time here. Updated accessibility features and walkable pathways have made the area even more inviting for everyone.
Spend the morning grabbing coffee and pastries, wandering through local shops, stopping for lunch, sitting in Village Square and people-watching for a while, enjoying seasonal events, or taking a short drive toward the American River Parkway and its trails.
One of my favorite things about Fair Oaks is that it does not always feel like you are in the Sacramento area at all. Drive through the surrounding neighborhoods and suddenly you find mature trees stretching overhead, rolling hills, unique homes, and streets full of character.
You feel transported.

And honestly… that’s still not even all of them. Fair Oaks Village is full of little hidden gems tucked between the more familiar favorites. One of the best parts of exploring the Village is discovering a boutique, wine spot, café, or creative space you somehow walked past twenty times before finally stepping inside.
It’s part of what gives the Village its charm — that small-town, “movie set with roosters” kind of energy that keeps people coming back.

A Local Favorite Walk
One of the most beautiful little walks in Fair Oaks is a simple loop that many locals enjoy.
Start at Fair Oaks Village Park, walk down Bridge Street, cross the Historic Fair Oaks Bridge, follow the American River Parkway trail, and then return to the Village.
Along the way, you’ll see the river, the bluffs, the historic bridge, and of course the famous chickens wandering through the Village.
It’s a short walk, but one of the most scenic introductions to the community.
How to Access the Fair Oaks Bridge and River Trails
One of the most beautiful and unique features of Fair Oaks Village is its direct connection to the American River Parkway and the historic Fair Oaks Bridge.
Many visitors don’t realize how easy it is to walk from the Village directly to the river trails.
Here is a simple way to understand the layout.

The historic Fair Oaks Bridge connects the Village directly to the American River Parkway trail system, one of the most scenic recreation areas in Northern California.

This is the classic way locals reach the river.
Start at Fair Oaks Village Park.
Walk toward Bridge Street.
Follow Bridge Street downhill toward the river.
At the bottom, you will reach the Historic Fair Oaks Bridge.
The bridge crosses the American River and connects directly to the American River Parkway bike and walking trail.
This walk is short, scenic, and one of the best ways to experience Fair Oaks.
Access Point 2
Parking and Walking to the Bridge from Sunrise Boulevard
Drive to Sunrise Boulevard.
Head north toward the American River.
Just before the Sunrise Bridge, turn into the entrance for the Sunrise Recreation Area.
Park in the recreation area parking lots.
Walk to the American River Parkway trail.
Follow the trail west toward Fair Oaks.
Within a short walk, you will arrive at the Historic Fair Oaks Bridge, which leads directly into Fair Oaks Village.
The Homes Around Fair Oaks Tell Stories Too
One of my favorite things about Fair Oaks is that the homes and neighborhoods have just as much personality as the Village itself.
If you love historic charm, you can find homes with roots reaching back to the late 1800s and early 1900s. If Craftsman homes make your heart happy, there are pockets filled with character and details you do not see in many newer homes. If you love mid-century style, there are Streng homes and neighborhoods with that clean line, indoor-outdoor feeling that people continue to fall in love with.
Then there are established neighborhoods with mature trees, rolling streets, custom homes, ranch properties, and even newer developments mixed throughout the area.
One of the things I love about Fair Oaks is that there is no single look or formula here. Different neighborhoods have their own personality and feel, which means whether you love historic charm, something modern, or somewhere in between, there is a good chance there is a corner of Fair Oaks that feels like home.
My Connection to Fair Oaks Village
My connection to Fair Oaks began in 1990 when I moved here from the Bay Area while pregnant with my son and starting over during a difficult season of life.
At the time, my mom had relocated here for work, and Fair Oaks became the place where we slowly began building a new chapter.
One of my strongest memories from those early years was walking with my mother in the evenings down Sunset Avenue while I was in the final weeks of my pregnancy.
We walked almost every night together, talking about life while the neighborhood settled into evening around us.
More than thirty years later, I still think about those walks every time I drive down that road.
After losing my mom in 2014, those memories became even more meaningful to me.
Over the years, Fair Oaks Village became woven into our daily lives. My son and I spent time walking through the Village, crossing the bridge, exploring the American River trails, riding bikes, and spending afternoons at the park.
Somewhere along the way, Fair Oaks stopped being the place where I landed and simply became home.
Helping Others Find Their Place in Fair Oaks
Over the years, something unexpected happened.
Because of the I Love Fair Oaks website, I began meeting people who were new to the area and looking for ways to connect with the community. Many of them tell me the same thing. When they start searching online for information about Fair Oaks, they keep seeing my name come up.
Eventually they reach out and say something like:
“You seem to know everything about Fair Oaks. Can you help point me in the right direction?”
I have always loved that.
Sometimes people are simply looking for a great place to eat, a local event to attend, or a recommendation for a service. Other times they are trying to figure out where to live, how to get involved, and how to begin building a life here.
Over the years, I have had the privilege of helping many newcomers get acquainted with the people, places, and traditions that make Fair Oaks such a special community.
Looking back, it still amazes me.
If I could go back and talk to my younger self, the one who arrived here not knowing anyone and starting over, I would tell her something simple:
You landed in the perfect place.
Fair Oaks turned out to be the community where I built my life, raised my son, formed lasting friendships, and found a way to help others feel at home here, too.
