Meet Peggy Perez of Retro-Fit Studio in Fair Oaks: Strength, Longevity, and Personal Coaching

Personalized strength and wellness coaching designed to support real life, independence, and confidence at any age.

Retro-Fit Studio is a personalized fitness and wellness studio in Fair Oaks, California, offering private and semi-private coaching focused on strength, longevity, nutrition, and brain health.

This article is part of a paid partnership with Retro-Fit Studio. As always, I only collaborate with local businesses I genuinely enjoy supporting and sharing with the Fair Oaks community.

If you have ever felt unsure where to start with fitness, intimidated by big gyms, or worried about staying strong and independent as you age, there is a quiet studio in Fair Oaks that feels very different.

Just up the street from Fair Oaks Village, tucked into a calm pocket many people drive past without noticing, there is a studio filled with heart. It is called Retro-Fit Studio, and it is where Peggy Perez helps people reconnect with their bodies, rebuild strength, and rediscover confidence at any age.

Step inside and you immediately feel the difference. This is no ordinary gym. There are no crowds, no blaring screens, and no cookie-cutter workouts. Everything feels intentional and personal because Peggy designed it that way.

Peggy has spent more than twenty years working in fitness, nutrition, brain health, and wellness coaching. She has blended all of that experience into a warm, welcoming space where people are seen and supported as whole humans, not just as clients. She is a fitness coach, yes, but also part health coach, part brain-health specialist, part habit-builder, and part mindset mentor, which is probably why people in Fair Oaks already consider her a bit of a hidden gem.

Where every journey begins with a conversation

Peggy begins every relationship with a conversation, not a workout. She wants to understand who you are, what you have been through, and what matters to you now. Your goals, your history, your habits, your fears, your patterns, your hopes, and especially your why.

She calls this her No Sweat Consultation, and the name fits. It is relaxed, friendly, and completely centered on you. HIPAA guidelines also apply, because Peggy believes your story deserves privacy and respect.

Once she understands where you want to go, she builds a plan that fits your body and your life. Even in her semi-private training sessions, everyone is doing something different. You are not following a generic routine. You are following a path created specifically for you, with Peggy right there to coach your form, keep you safe, and celebrate progress every step of the way.

Training for longevity and real life

One of the things Peggy is most passionate about is longevity. Research shows that leg and grip strength are among the strongest predictors of independence as we age, and Peggy focuses on building the kind of strength that supports real-life activities.

Strong legs mean mobility. Strong hands and arms mean capability. Consistent, mindful movement helps people stay independent, confident, and engaged in the life they love.

Her workouts are not about chasing calories or punishing your body. They are about building strength that supports your life. Sessions might include equipment work in the studio, floor exercises, or heading outside for interval training. Depending on a clientโ€™s goals, Peggy will even take them to a high school track. Everything is tailored. Nothing is random.

A deeply personal approach to brain health and nutrition

Peggyโ€™s work is shaped by personal experience. In 2009, she survived a traumatic brain injury, an event that changed her life and eventually became part of her calling. Determined to protect her long-term brain health, she immersed herself in research and became a certified brain-health specialist.

Today, she helps clients support cognition, focus, mood, and healthy habits, particularly aging adults and neurodivergent clients who benefit from structure, consistency, and understanding.

Nutrition is another important part of her coaching. Peggy works with people navigating diabetes, epilepsy, body recomposition, and other health challenges. She does not believe in shame, extreme rules, or rigid diets. Her approach focuses on education, support, and helping people understand what their bodies truly need.

Lifestyle, calm, and community

Peggy understands that health does not exist in a vacuum. Stress, sleep, routines, environment, and community all matter. This is why she teaches Tai Chi and why she has been talking with the Fair Oaks Recreation and Park District about offering outdoor classes in the village park.

She believes our bodies crave calm and connection just as much as strength, and that being outside, even in cooler weather, supports both physical and mental health.

Her clients often stay with her for years, not because they feel obligated, but because they feel supported. Peggy tracks progress in handwritten โ€œrecompositionโ€ books (her word), helping people see tangible proof of how far they have come. She teaches them how to move with intention so they feel confident anywhere, not just inside her studio.

Rooted in Fair Oaks

Peggy recently moved to Fair Oaks and loves it. She talks about the people, the community spirit, and how welcoming it feels here. She has joined the Fair Oaks Rotary, connected with the Fair Oaks Chamber, and is actively involved in the community.

She has also been nominated for Best of Fair Oaks in the Best Fitness Studio category, which speaks volumes about the impression she is already making.

Her husband, Dave, works alongside her in the studio, often demonstrating equipment and supporting clients. A prostate and lymphoma cancer survivor, Dave had a clear goal to stay cancer-free and get in the best shape of his life before turning 70. When he and Peggy met, he was under-muscled and rebuilding strength. Today, through consistent and intentional training, he continues to build lean muscle and improve his overall health and lab results, a powerful reminder that strength and vitality are possible at any age.

Training for meaningful goals

One of the things I really love about Peggyโ€™s approach is that she helps people train for life, not just for workouts. During our conversation, she shared that she is currently working with two sisters who are preparing to apply to the Air Force and need to meet very specific fitness requirements.

That really stuck with me, because it reframes exercise as preparation for something meaningful. Whether it is preparing for military service, getting strong enough to ski, feeling confident enough to try pickleball, or simply staying active and independent as we age, having a coach who understands your goal makes all the difference.

Peggy works with many people in their 50s, 60s, and beyond, helping them build strength, confidence, and capability for whatever season they are in. With pickleball so popular and my own family hooked, it is easy to see how training for something enjoyable can make movement feel more motivating. That is exactly what Peggy does best. She meets you where you are and helps you get where you want to go.

Peggy also believes in teaching people how to use gym equipment with confidence, not just telling them what to do. Her goal is for clients to understand form and purpose so they feel comfortable walking into any gym, whether they are traveling or training on their own. That kind of confidence removes one of the biggest barriers to long-term activity.
